PLANNING PERMISSION GRANTED FOR LANDMARK LIVERPOOL HOTEL AT PEEL L&P’S LIVERPOOL WATERS

The Cruise Terminal Hotel facilities include a lobby bar, cafe, restaurant, business suite and back of house facilities as well as visitor and coach parking, and a taxi pick-up and drop-off point.

Construction of the new hotel is expected to commence early 2020 and will see Wates fulfil a commitment to provide extensive training and employment opportunities for local people as well as boosting the city’s economy through the appointment of local supply chain partners.

Dave Saville, Business Unit Director for Wates Construction North West, commented:

We are very pleased to have received planning permission for the new Liverpool Cruise Terminal Hotel, a development that will play a significant role in the growth of the city’s already booming tourism industry. Months of work have gone into the planning for the project in terms of its delivery and the added value it will create for local people and we look forward to bringing these plans to fruition in the coming months and years.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson said:

Liverpool should be the premier cruise destination on the west coast of the UK and our new terminal will underpin that ambition and make it a reality. This hotel is critical to the plan to create a world-class experience for the cruise companies and their passengers. The city is working with some of the very best in the construction industry to deliver the facilities and I’m delighted they’ve got the green light to start this hugely important scheme.

Peel L&P’s £5bn Liverpool Waters scheme is one of the largest regeneration projects in Europe, which will create five distinct neighbourhoods and breathe life back into the city’s northern docks.

Darran Lawless, Development Director for Liverpool Waters, part of Peel L&P, said:

This is a fantastic step forward for Liverpool’s regeneration. The hotel will be a brilliant addition to our waterfront, allowing visitors from around the world to experience this fantastic city. We look forward to seeing the development progress as part of the wider Liverpool Waters scheme.

Mike Hopkins, Director, Jones Lang LaSalle, added:

The proposed hotel will provide a high-quality, landmark building on this important part of the Liverpool waterfront – complementing the recently-approved Cruise Terminal and helping to secure significant benefits to the visitor and retail economies of the city and the wider region.

Construction of the new hotel was procured by the City Council via Major Works UK, part of Scape’s National Construction framework, which has been designed to deliver significant levels of local economic engagement as well as extensive community initiatives.

Wates’ design team includes Brock Carmichael as Architects, Curtins as Civil and Structural Engineers, Ramboll as Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and Planit as Landscape Architects.

The new Cruise Terminal facility is supported with £20m from the Local Growth Fund, which is awarded to the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership (LEP) and invested through the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority’s Strategic Investment Fund. It recently received detailed planning permission in late August.

The site of Princes Jetty and the land known as Plot 11 along Princes Parade, which are needed for the construction of the new cruise terminal and the hotel, will be gifted to the city council by Peel L&P.
