Prime waterfront hotel sites hit the market as Liverpool becomes hotspot destination for UK and international tourists

Waterside regeneration specialist, Peel Waters, has unveiled two prime development sites along Liverpool’s iconic waterfront at Princes Dock and is actively seeking global hotel operators to bring forward the first of these developments.
The two development sites sit within Peel Waters’ emerging Liverpool Waters destination, which is already home to thousands of residents, hundreds of businesses and attracts international visitors every week through its onsite cruise liner terminal.
It is certainly Liverpool’s time in the spotlight. Last month, Liverpool was named by Which? as the UK’s best large city break destination due to its ‘buzzing atmosphere’ and its ‘fantastic cultural scene’.
The city also recently welcomed global superstar Taylor Swift, with a wide range of celebration and cultural events planned to mark the occasion. Liverpool was one of just four UK venues chosen for the sell-out international Eras Tour, bringing fans to Liverpool from across the globe. The Bascule Bridge at Liverpool Waters was also one of several locations from across Liverpool chosen and used by Taylor Swift in her self-directed video announcing her tour.
In May, Peel Waters and Peel Ports announced a 50-year agreement with Global Ports Holding Plc, the world's largest independent cruise port operator, to operate services from Liverpool Cruise Port and increase the number of liners coming into Liverpool Waters. Earlier this month, international cruise operator, Cunard, chose Liverpool as the destination for the naming ceremony and debut of its brand-new luxury cruise ship, Queen Anne, which attracted thousands of visitors to the site.
Both hotel sites are located along Liverpool’s internationally recognised waterfront, close to the city centre, the new Isle of Man Ferry terminal, and Everton Football Club’s brand new 52,000 seat stadium. These prime sites are perfectly placed to capitalise on Liverpool’s leading leisure industry; making the plots Peel Waters is bringing forward, two of the most exciting development opportunities in the UK for hotel operators and investors.
The two new developments will join a thriving Princes Dock neighbourhood with cafes, bars, restaurants and hotels, all sitting alongside hundreds of new homes and 200,000 sq ft of Grade A commercial space. Visitors to Princes Dock can also take part in open water swimming, scuba diving, canoeing, dragon boat racing and, coming soon, the traditional Nordic sauna experience, WYLD Sauna, which will be the UK’s first public floating sauna.
Liverpool is the UK’s fourth most visited city by domestic tourists and fifth most visited by international tourists. The city has a well-established tourism market and enjoys high levels of demand, outperforming the UK’s other major cities such as Manchester, Glasgow, Leeds and Newcastle.
Chris Capes, Director for Development at Liverpool Waters said: “There is no doubt that Liverpool is an exciting international destination, which is attracting global attention and has huge potential for the future. The regeneration of Liverpool’s historic northern docks at Liverpool Waters, is already having a huge impact on the number of visitors and tourists coming here to enjoy everything this fantastic city has to offer.
“Our masterplan for Liverpool Waters supports the opportunity for at least two new waterfront hotels to accommodate the growing number of tourists and so we are now actively looking for a hotel operator to develop this first prime waterfront site.
“We will also be very excited to bring forward the site of the current temporary cruise liner terminal once Global Ports Holdings relocates to their new terminal. This is possibly the most prominent site at Liverpool Waters and so we will be looking for something quite special that will really transform that part of Liverpool’s iconic waterfront.”
